Top 15 Tips for Looking After Your Teeth

As you may be aware, looking after your teeth is important for ensuring a healthy, white smile. Unfortunately, with the easy accessibility to more and more harmful products, we are seeing a rise in the number of people heading to the dentist with a problem with their teeth. A lot of the time, however, this can be avoided by simply knowing how to prevent it in the first place.

Read below for Midlands Smile Centres 15 DO's and DONT’s to looking after your teeth.

1)    Do – Choose your brush carefully

Most people don’t take much time to look into this, and why would you? A toothbrush is a toothbrush, right? Well on closer inspection you’ll find that there are a variety of different toothbrush all aimed around correcting different problems. Next time you're looking at a new toothbrush, take into consideration what you're looking for. A simple change such as this can help to keep your tees in good order without costing you a fortune.

2)    Do – Use sugar-free gum

Believe it or not, sugar-free gum does wonders for dental health. Making sure you have a pack on you wherever you go could make a  big difference to your teeth. The use of chewing gum helps to increase the volume of saliva in your mouth which in turn helps to neutralise acid levels in the mouth and on your teeth. This helps to prevent further damage to your teeth. And of course, the other added bonus of chewing gum is fresh minty breath everywhere you go.

3)    Don’t – Ignore a dental problem

If you notice something isn’t right with your teeth and gums, go and see your local dentist. There’s nothing to be afraid or embarrassed about. The most important thing is your health. Avoiding and ignoring problem will only cause further problems for your mouth and can lead to much more problematic issues later in life.

4)    Do – Floss your teeth

Now, I bet you're sick and tired of hearing this, but it really is a great way to keep your teeth clean. Flossing your teeth on a regular basis is a good way of ensuring you reach every surface on your teeth. This simply cannot be achieved with brushing alone. This simple task can be complete anywhere and will have a significant effect on your teeth.

5)    Do – Use mouthwash

Just like using floss, mouthwash is able to reach places that a normal toothbrush may have missed. This will guarantee that your entire mouth is as clean as possible. Mouthwash is also great at eliminating bad breath and sustaining a minty taste throughout the day.

6)    Don’t - Use your teeth as tools

Some of the stories we get told about the cause of broken teeth are astounding. Your teeth are for eating, and eating only. They shouldn’t be used for any other purpose, such as a bottle opener. Trust us when we say it’s not a pleasant experience when something goes wrong.

7)    Do – Vary your diet to include foods that are good for your teeth

There are a large number of foods out there that are not only tasty, but are also great for keeping your teeth clean. Like chewing gum, some food can help to remove acid from your mouth. While it is certainly more important to make sure you clean your teeth regularly, you should think about this during your next trip to the supermarket.

8)    Do – Wait an hour after eating before brushing

You might be surprised by this one but waiting for about an hour after eating before you brush your teeth, does have a positive effect on your dental hygiene. When eating, sugars and acids will weaken enamel. If you then choose to brush your teeth immediately afterwards, tiny pieces of enamel will be swept away by your brush.

9)    Don’t – Drink too many sugary drinks

Many fizzy drinks contain an obscene amount of sugar, this sugar attaches itself to your teeth and cause a multitude of problems. In order to combat this, zero-sugar alternatives can be a tasty substitute. If you must have a full sugar drink, try putting in some ice cubes to dilute it first.

10)    Do – Have regular dental check-ups

We are fully aware that this is not appealing to everyone and the thought of going to the dentist is one that most don't like to think about. But going to the dentist really is the best way to get regular advice on keeping your teeth in the best shape. You can also be sure to find any problems quickly before they become more serious and require extensive treatment.

11)    Do – Brush your tongue

Most people know that this is something you should do and it is more than often included in many people's cleaning regime. This is because it helps to provide fresh clean breath throughout the day. Did you know however that it has another brilliant benefit? Brushing your tongue helps to remove harmful bacteria from your mouth, which in turn helps to maintain the healthy condition of your teeth.

12)    Don’t – Use the same toothbrush for too long

More often than not most people will overuse their toothbrush. This is normally because they don’t know how long a toothbrush lasts. There are some obvious signs to look out for, one of which is when the brush bristles begin to bend and fail. More often than not a good rule to live by is change your toothbrush or brush head every 3 months. This way you can ensure that your brush is doing its job properly and your teeth stay clean.

13)    Do – Use an electric toothbrush

Many dentists will tell you that an electric toothbrush is much better than a manual brush, and this is because an electric toothbrush can help get a better coverage of your teeth and gums, offering as much as 21% more plaque removal after 3 months. Investing in your own electric toothbrush is a very good way to improve your dental health.

14)    Do – Drink water

While water isn't the most exciting drink on the menu, it’s a fantastic way to keep your teeth clean. Simply drinking water helps to neutralise the PH levels in your mouth and remove food that may be stuck in-between your teeth and gums. Not to mention this can also have a great effect on your general health as well. It's also much better for you than sugary drinks.

15)    Don’t – Rush your Brush

Now, this is important. If you take nothing else from this blog at least listen to this. We all know that you should brush your teeth a minimum of twice a day for 2 minutes, but many of us struggle, either due to being in a rush, or just forgetting. Brushing twice a day for 2 minutes is a very important factor of dental health, so make sure you leave time for doing this.

The Right Treatment to Help You

Problems with your teeth are something that will inevitably come-up from time to time. Luckily, we at Midlands Smile Centres are on-hand to help you. MSC are staffed from a team of highly skilled and experienced dentists who can be relied upon to help you with whatever dental issues that you may need professional assistance with.

Continue reading for an insight into some of the tooth-related problems you could face and for an overview of the issues that MSC can alleviate for patients such as you.

An Overview of Dental Issues and How We Can Help

Crooked/Misaligned Teeth

Not necessarily something you would notice due to the pain or discomfort it would cause you, misaligned teeth can still create a problem for people due to the aesthetic impact that they have. Crooked or misaligned teeth affect the way a person's smile looks, and this can lower their confidence as a consequence.

Our answer at MSC to this problem is our fine range of orthodontic treatments. We provide a choice that stretches from the traditional types of braces that you would expect to the more impressive invisible braces that we can offer you.

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth can often be a noticeable cause of pain and discomfort. If you do experience some level of pain related to this wisdom teeth, our dentists can assist you. Our dentists will decide whether or not to remove your wisdom tooth/teeth with the possible use of an X-ray aiding their judgement. Other extractions can be performed by our dentists also.

Irregular Shaped Teeth/Discoloured Teeth

Teeth serve a purpose, but they are also a fairly conspicuous part of how we look, and imperfections in the way we look can be problematic for some of us. Irregular shaped or discoloured teeth may be responsible for certain people out there to feel uncomfortable about their smile or their overall look. There may also be some individuals who do not realise that this imperfection can be alleviated, and some that are so accustomed to having irregular shaped or discoloured teeth that they have forgotten about this issue, an issue which can be addressed relatively easily.

What we offer to combat this problem is veneers. Veneers are thin layers of material- usually porcelain- that are placed over individual teeth to hide their undesirable appearance. These layers of porcelain are tooth-coloured meaning that they have a natural look and will blend in with the surrounding teeth. Simple and effective, this form of cosmetic treatment makes a noticeable difference to your smile and at MSC, with as few as one or two veneers you can expect to see a huge improvement in the way your teeth look.

Lost Teeth

Whether through playing sports or some other sort of accident, having teeth knocked-out is considered by us to be an emergency. If you do lose a tooth in a certain situation, here's what we would advise you to do: put the tooth into a container of milk, seal it and bring it with you. (Don't clean or wash the tooth.) One of our dentists may be able to reinsert the dislodged tooth.
If, however, you lost your teeth some time ago and currently have a gap in your teeth which has been there ever since the tooth came out, the gap can also create some awkwardness. This is due to the less-than-perfect appearance it creates in addition to it not being ideal on a practical level.

The skilled dentists at Midlands Smile Centres are able to make this flaw in your smile a thing of the past. We can achieve this by implementing our dental implant treatment. Made-up of a false tooth and a titanium implant that is attached to the jawbone, single dental implants will not only help restore the natural charm of your smile but will be a comfortable and versatile addition to your mouth as well.

For those patients who have more than one tooth missing, you can opt for another of our treatments such as denture implants and implant supported bridges if these are suitable for your situation.

Yellow/Stained Teeth

Various aspects of our diet and daily dental care can be attributed to the causing of yellow and stained teeth. There are things though that can be done to counter-act this, and MSC are the people to see for these solutions.

One of our cosmetic dentistry treatments types that is sure to correct this imperfection for you is our teeth whitening treatment. At Midlands Smile Centres, we offer Enlighten tooth whitening, a system that incorporates whitening gel and specially made, close-fitting trays that are to be filled with the gel and worn on your teeth overnight. These trays need to be worn for two weeks to produce the cosmetic results that are important to you.

Another method we use to help those with stained/yellow teeth is airflow treatment. Similar in some ways to a scale and polish, MSC's airflow utilises a pressurised jet of water, air and sodium bicarbonate to clean your teeth. The airflow jet will polish your teeth as well. Also able to clear your teeth of plaque and reach into periodontal pockets, our airflow treatment can reduce tooth sensitivity and does not include chemicals so it won't cause any irritation or burning.

General Pain And Emergency Dentistry

There are various causes of dental pain, and all of them are likely to make you consider getting a dentists appointment soon. If you are experiencing some form of dental pain and it does not cease following 30 minutes after taking pain relief and brushing and flossing teeth, then you should contact MSC on our Emergency Treatment number- 07960344510. (You do not need to be an MSC patient to access our emergency dental treatment.)

However, pain is not the only reason that you should contact MSC straight away.
Here are some other reasons that you should get in touch with us immediately:
-A broken crown. This could lead to eventual tooth loss.
-A broken tooth or filling. This can result in eventual tooth loss.
-A lump on your gum line that is next to the root of your tooth. This could be an abscess.
-A tooth that has been knocked out.
-A lost tooth. Without treatment, the wound in your gum is at risk of infection, abscesses and other problems.
-A loose or partially dislodged tooth. Our dentist may be capable of reinserting it.

Finding a Good Dentist

What would you say is most important to you in terms of finding a good dentist?

It's fair to say that when it comes to finding a good dentist, there are a list of different factors to consider. One thing to remember is that it's important to look into this issue in good time, because waiting until you have toothache could mean you don’t get the problem looked at soon enough.

Here at Midlands Smile Centres (MSC), we offer a clean and welcoming environment and we are wholly confident that we can satisfy the requirements you have for what it is that makes a good dentist.

Here's a brief outline of some of the most important aspects relevant to finding a dentist that is right for you.

Where are the Dentists Located?

No one wants to travel very far from where they live to get to their dentist, and no one would want to have travel to somewhere that's hard to reach for their appointment either. So location is definitely a relevant aspect in finding a good dentist.

MSC have practices around Birmingham which makes it very easy for people in the city to visit for any treatments they have booked or need to get booked. This also makes journey times for your dental appointments shorter, too. Plus by being located in busy parts of Birmingham such as Kings Heath and Selly Oak, you could easily make your trip to the dentist's tie-in with other outings or getting other jobs done.

How Much Will it Cost?

Cost can be a fairly important factor in making your decision about which dentist is best suited to you. It's highly unlikely that you will be drawn to a dentist whose fees are very high, but it's also very likely that you will not want to opt for the cheapest dentist either.

The prices for MSC's services are not only affordable but are reflective of the quality and professionalism that is at the heart of every service that is provided by the team at Midlands Smile Centres. Additionally, it is worth bearing in mind that for certain types of treatment such as implants, seeking the cheapest provider is not advisable, and finding a dentist such as MSC that have an extensive history of providing successful implant procedures is the better route to take. We can offer you the MSC Smile Plan too, which makes treatments even more affordable.

Here are a few examples of charges for MSC treatments:

Dental Implants- From £45.05/month*
Botox- From £150*
Invisalign- £50.42 per month*
Bridges- From £509 (Single Unit Bridgework)*

Visit our website to see all of our prices.

What Range of Treatments are Available?

A good dentist is also one that is able to provide the service that is directly beneficial to your dental health, for example braces and fillings. However, a good dentist should be able to offer other treatments that you may not have previously considered which can bring a little extra charm to your smile. Opting for a dentist that is capable of these treatments in addition to the other more regular services is ideal, as it means you won't have to journey to different dentists to get the treatments you want, and it will instead be all available under the same roof.

This is where MSC have a particular advantage, as they offer a wide selection of dental treatments. Providing cosmetic treatments as well as a number of more necessary types of dental treatment, Midlands Smile Centres have both the skills and experience to improve your teeth and heighten your all-round dental health.

Take a look at our website to discover all of our available treatments.

What About the Equipment?

If you're trying to find a high-quality dentist, giving a thought to their equipment is a good idea. A generally efficient standard of equipment for use in dental procedures and the overall day-to-day operation of a practice is sure to provide you with the best results.

The environment inside the average MSC practice is one lined with the level of contemporary equipment that you would expect from a well—regarded dentist in this day and age. Furthermore, Midlands Smile Centres boast their own orthodontic scanner. This piece of equipment is not exactly a common part of the dentist experience and speeds-up the whole process for you, reducing patient waiting time as a result.

Also at MSC, we have an inter-oral camera, giving us a better view of teeth, which helps to identify the less-obvious dental problems you might have. The patient being able to see the images from the inter-oral camera also leads to the whole process of examining your teeth being more transparent, building trust between you and your dentist.

How Long has the Dentist been Trading For?

Does this form part of your decision-making process when trying to find a good dentist? How long a dentist has been trading for is certainly relevant. The longer a dentist has been trading for can be an indicator of the level of popularity and trust it has amongst the public, so it's worth giving some thought to.

On this subject, you might find it reassuring to know that MSC has been in operation since 1984.

Guarantees?

Guarantees on your dental work are vital; no one would want treatment done on their teeth only for some kind of problem to emerge related to this treatment which they then had to pay for.

By going with MSC for your dental treatments you can rest assured that there is a 12 month guarantee on the work that we do. The aftercare for your teeth following procedures is covered in the price you pay for treatment, and if you have a dental implant with us, remember that it will last forever.

What are the Facilities in the Waiting Room?

This point may not be an essential one, but it does indicate how your level of comfort within the dentists' waiting room can be a factor.

Visiting the dentist on the whole isn’t the most pleasant of experiences for some people, and they can sometimes be something of an inconvenience. Therefore, having a look at the inside of the waiting room can help you see how comfortable, relaxed and at ease you might be sitting there as time ticks away until you're called in for your appointment.

At Midlands Smile Centres, your comfort in the waiting room is always easy to find. Inside MSC waiting rooms you can usually find Wi-Fi to allow you to surf the 'net as well as televisions to help take your mind off things. Our Selly Oak practice offers a view out into Selly Oak and of the University in the distance, while the waiting room at the Kings Heath practice stands-out by featuring a pleasant view of its outside garden.

Accommodating You

It's always important that your experience at a dentist is a comfortable one, and because of this, your needs and requirements should be accommodated as far as is possible. In regards to this, it's worth pointing-out that you shouldn't feel tied to one particular dentist/practice.

MSC are committed to placing great emphasis on your overall care and the general standard of your experience with us. We are consistent in our aim to meet your needs, and if you feel you want to go forward with a certain type of treatment with us but do not like your dentist for any reason, we can help.

What about Online Reviews?

In the age of the internet, one of the best ways to investigate beforehand whether a particular place is of a good standard is by having a look at the online reviews. Having real people give real opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of a service or location is really insightful and is quite different from the way advertising campaigns would communicate with you.

A quick search for online reviews of MSC by those who have received treatment at one of their practices shows that MSC are not only capable of giving their patients a particularly high-standard of treatment, but that they also do this in conjunction with a superb commitment to care for those that receive this treatment.

Dentistry at MSC

Overall, there are many different things to think about in choosing the right dentist for you. There are many questions to ask yourself and issues to take into account. It's your decision though, and it has to be right for you. Dental Implants At Midlands Smile Centres

Midlands Smile Centres are staffed with a number of highly skilled dentists with a vast amount of experience in dental implants, and they can help you overcome the obstacles that prevent you from achieving the smile that you are seeking. One of the obstacles that people face is missing teeth. Having missing teeth in the mouth can adversely affect the appearance of a person's smile, and partially reduce their overall confidence as a result.

Implants at MSC come in various forms for different purposes. By drawing on the vast experience they have in performing dental implants procedures- which is essential for this type of treatment- our dentists are able to give you the treatment you need to create the kind of smile you are looking for.

The Types of Implants Available at MSC

Single Dental Implants - Single Dental Implants are made-up of two parts: a real-looking false tooth and a supporting titanium rod. These Single Dental Implants replace both the missing tooth and the root of your missing tooth. The supporting rod is inserted into the jawbone and the false-tooth is visible on top of the gum.

Implanted Dentures - Implanted Dentures are an alternative to traditional removable dentures. They make use of titanium screws or cylinders in the jawbone and extensions on top of those which are attached to the new teeth in your mouth.

Gold Implants - Gold Implants are similar to Single Dental Implants in the way that they are made-up of two-parts: the titanium implant attached to the jawbone and a false tooth. With Gold Implants, the false tooth is gold in its appearance, and this is a result of the false-tooth being made with a gold alloy. The gold alloy is derived through a combining of various materials including palladium, copper, silver, zinc and platinum.

Implanted Bridges - Implanted Bridges make use of implants inserted into the jawbone as well as extensions (if necessary) and the crown of the bridge, which is the visible tooth part. Implanted Bridges are used to replace sections of missing teeth in the mouth and are an alternative to traditional bridges.

What These Implants Are and What They Can Do For You

Single Dental Implants - Having Single Dental Implants is an effective solution for those with missing teeth as they are highly lauded for their versatility. Single Dental Implants are also comfortable, plus they are natural in their appearance.

Implanted Dentures - Implanted Dentures at MSC are a fine option for those that want something to replace the missing teeth that they have but want something that is superior to regular dentures. In contrast to regular dentures, Implanted Dentures are more secure, allowing for a better experience of eating food. In addition, Implanted Dentures prevent the jawbone from receding in the manner that would be expected with regular dentures.

Gold Implants - Gold Implants at MSC offer you the kind of function that you require from dental implants while also bringing a striking visual touch to your smile.

Implanted Bridges - Filling the gap where you currently have missing teeth in your mouth, Implanted Bridges make an obvious and instant difference to your teeth and the way they look. By replacing the missing teeth, these bridges also put a stop to the risk of your bite being put out of alignment. Leaving a gap in your teeth can lead to your jawbone shrinking and a resulting alteration in your facial structure and smile as well.

Also, by resting on the implants in your gums instead of resting on the surrounding healthy teeth, they are a healthier choice for your teeth because they will not wear down the healthy teeth around the gap. Another advantage that comes with having Implanted Bridges is that they can last for the entirety of your life, whereas ordinary bridges usually require changing after 10-15 years.

MSC's Implant Treatment Process- Brief Overview

Single Dental Implants - Single Dental Implants make use of a titanium supporting rod that attaches to the jawbone and a false-tooth on top of this. As part of MSC's treatment process for single dental implants, we use a “no scalpel” method. This method employs X-ray imaging which is used to precisely locate where the implant will be placed. Then, the implant is inserted directly into the gum without the use of a scalpel. Due to MSC's “no scalpel” technique, the patient experiences less bleeding, swelling and pain, and can expect a faster rate of recovery. At least three months is required for this procedure within just two visits.

Implanted Dentures - If the dentist deems your mouth and jaw suitable for implanted dentures, X-rays will be taken of your mouth before moulds are taken to ensure the best fit for you.

The next stage of the process is to attach the implants (titanium screws or cylinders to form the new “roots” for implanted dentures) to the jawbone. Between 4 and 6 “roots” will be needed. In the next 2-6 months the bone will bond with the implants. While this is happening, a temporary denture is provided to be worn over the implants during this period.

Following this, extensions are attached to the implants, which necessitates a further two-week healing period. Some implants combine the extension with the root meaning that the new teeth can be installed as soon as the first healing period is complete. (We will inform you as to which system is right for you).

Lastly, the full set of tailor-made teeth is connected to the implants and will be ready for you to use straight-away.

Improving Your Smile With MSC

Orthodontics is an important type of treatment that is available at Midlands Smile Centres. Generally speaking, one of the main reasons that people would opt for this types of treatment would be to achieve straighter teeth.

If you feel that your smile is affected by crooked or misaligned teeth, MSC can help you! Our team of vastly experienced dentists can provide you with the treatment you need to help you achieve the smile that you are looking for.

Invisalign - Invisalign treatment at MSC make use of invisible aligners that will gradually manoeuvre teeth into the desired position. Inivisalign treatment is an efficient way to alter your smile for the better. However, with their clear look, Invisalign invisible braces are a more aesthetically pleasing alternative to more conventional types of braces. In addition, Invisalign are comfortable to wear and, due to the fact that they can be removed, they are well-suited to eating and are easier to clean than traditional braces.

What's Involved? The clear aligners that are used by Invisalign invisible braces are tailor-made for your teeth, and the creation of these aligners is based on moulds taken of your teeth.

No wires or brackets are needed.

**We can also offer you our ClinCheck® 3D treatment plan which allows you to see beforehand what the results of the treatment will look like.

Six Months Smiles - Six Months Smiles at MSC are an impressive form of orthodontic treatment that can get results quickly. Six Months Smiles are a cosmetic braces system that are tooth-coloured and move your teeth at a gradual pace. The fact that they are tooth-coloured means that they will blend-in with your teeth and will be less conspicuous to the eye. Comfortable to wear, Six Months Smiles are sure to take as little as 6 months to make your teeth straighter.

Damon Braces - This form of orthodontic treatment harnesses innovative technology to create a better smile for you. It uses gentle, biologically-sensible forces to shift teeth quickly into the required position. Little to no discomfort is generally reported by patients when using Damon braces, and the whole process can often be completed without palatal expanders or painful extractions.

What's Involved? Damon Braces use high-tech brackets that have built-in clamps which hold the connecting wire. As is the case with ordinary braces, the brackets are glued to the front of your teeth.

The shape memory wire that we use will return to a predetermined shape, ensuring that the teeth move into the desired position.

After a series of appointments, the process will be complete, taking, on average, six months less to be finished than conventional braces.

Lingual Braces - Similar to traditional braces, Lingual Braces are capable of moving your teeth by utilising light yet consistent pressure. By sitting behind the teeth instead of in front of teeth, Lingual Braces are not noticeable to the eye, so are preferable to those who are self-conscious about having braces.

What's Involved? The initial step in this 18-36 month process is for one of our MSC dentists to verify that Lingual Braces are right for you. If so, the next stage will be for an impression of your teeth to be taken which facilitates the creation of the wires and brackets that are made specifically for your teeth.

Once these bespoke brackets are ready, they will be cemented to the back of your teeth by the dentist. The wire will also be attached so that the right amount of pressure can be exerted.

Your dentist will see you occasionally to ensure that there are no problems and to make any adjustments that are needed. After the process is finished, it is important to brush braces twice a day for two minutes with a soft bristled brush, as well as to floss between your teeth at least once a day and to use a fluoride mouthwash.

Specialist Orthodontics - An effective way to giving a bold and charming enhancement to your smile, under the heading of Specialist Orthodontics you will find treatment options that include invisible implements, fixed implements and removable implements for adults and children.

It may be that the problem with your smile is that fact that you have missing teeth. To combat this problem we, at Midlands Smile Centres can also offer you dental implants.

Single Dental Implants - Versatile and comfortable, Single Dental Implants are an option for those with missing teeth that is definitely worth considering. Single Dental Implants are made-up of a titanium supporting rod that is inserted into the jawbone and a natural-looking false tooth that remains visible on top.

Denture Implants - An improvement on regular dentures, Denture Implants provide a level of function that is more similar to that of natural teeth than the function provided by regular dentures. This form of treatment makes use of implants that are fixed into the jawbone. They are secure and prevent the jawbone from receding as much as expected.

Implant Supported Bridges - Using implants for support instead of healthy teeth in the manner that traditional dental bridges would, Implant-Supported Bridges will not have a damaging effect on your surrounding teeth. Plus, Implant-Supported Bridges are longer-lasting than traditional bridges.

Gold Implants - Gold Implants at Midlands Smile Centres work in a way that is not too dissimilar to ordinary implants but are also capable of adding a bold, visual touch to your smile.

Better Smiles at MSC

Are you unsatisfied with the way your teeth look? MSC can assist you!

Here at Midlands Smile Centres, we can provide a range of cosmetic treatments that will help you achieve the kind of smile that you are looking for.

For some of us, the staining of our teeth can be a big problem. Staining is caused by damage to the teeth's enamel and the consumption of food and drink that has a staining effect on teeth. Damage to the enamel is a result of poor dental hygiene, age, certain types of medication, accidents and acidic/sugary foods. The kinds of food and drink that cause staining on the teeth include tomatoes, blueberries, wine, tea and coffee. Tobacco will stain your teeth, too. At MSC, we can offer you treatment to help your teeth look whiter, making your smile a brighter one.

The Enlighten Tooth Whitening system which we provide at MSC is a popular and successful method to improve the whiteness of teeth. The process for using Enlighten Tooth Whitening begins with close fitting trays being made specifically for your teeth. These high-standard trays are provided to you along with a whitening gel. The trays are intended to be filled with a whitening gel and then worn by the patient every night for two weeks. After this, the patient will visit the dentist to receive the final treatment.

Our Enlighten Tooth Whitening system is completely safe, and to combat any sensitivity, you will be given some swabs to use. Also to strengthen and protect the teeth, a special tooth serum will be provided to you for you to brush with.

The impressive results that our Enlighten Tooth Whitening can create can be maintained. To ensure you heighten the chance of the whiteness on your teeth lasting for as long as possible, the trays can be worn once every two months, and to add further protection, you can continue to brush your teeth with the special tooth serum.

For some people, the issue they have with their smile is that some of their teeth have an irregular shape. Whether teeth are damaged, decayed, misaligned or even discoloured, the veneers that are on offer here at Midlands Smile Centres can make a bold difference to your smile. Veneers are thin layers that have the colour of natural teeth. They are usually made of porcelain and are placed over the relevant teeth. In most cases, as few as only one or two veneers are required to make a clear improvement to a person's smile.

We use airflow at MSC to give your teeth a thorough clean. It is an efficient way to polish your teeth and remove staining.

Airflow treatment at MSC makes use of a jet of air, water and sodium bicarbonate that is directed at the patient's teeth through a nozzle. Effective in reducing plaque build-up and cleaning between teeth, airflow is also quicker and more comfortable than alternative forms of stain and plaque removal. Suitable for those with sensitive teeth and actually able to lessen teeth sensitivity as well as capable of reaching up to 5mm into periodontal pockets, our airflow treatment is a sure way to make teeth look cleaner and brighter.

Providing a patient with the kind of function that they would expect from ordinary fillings, white fillings at Midlands Smile Centres are a more aesthetically pleasing alternative to grey amalgam fillings. More natural in their appearance, white fillings at MSC will not be noticeable in a person's mouth when they laugh or smile in the way that they would be with traditional grey or silver fillings.

Making use of a gold alloy that consists of gold blended with other materials and ideal for a striking visual lift to your smile, at MSC we are able to provide gold services that include: Gold Implants, Gold Crowns/Custom Crown Design, Gold Inlays, Gold Veneers.
These consist of a titanium implant and a gold tooth. The implant is inserted into the jawbone while the gold tooth is attached to the implant. Gold Implants at MSC do not place pressure on your surrounding teeth and will give you the same level of function as ordinary implants but add an extra cosmetic boost to your smile.

Perfect for replacing any crowns you currently have that are worn or stained, Gold Crowns at MSC bring a touch of glamour to your teeth. By opting for Gold Crowns with us you can restore the teeth in your mouth. The impact that crowns have on teeth is one that helps teeth affected by decay, loss of tooth surface as well as teeth at risk of disintegration. Also able to supply your teeth with extra protection, MSC Gold Crowns are durable, and because little preparation of the tooth is required, a larger proportion of the structure of your tooth will be maintained.

Useful for filling a large cavity when the tooth around the cavity is still healthy, Gold Inlays (or Inserts) are a choice for your teeth that are both functional and stylish.

Bringing an added sense of style to your smile, Gold Veneers come in thin layers and are placed over teeth that are misshapen, misaligned, damaged or discoloured. With just a couple of veneers in your mouth, the appearance of your teeth can change emphatically.

Invisalign and Implants Working Together

It is easy to get used to the way your teeth look, even if you don’t feel satisfied by their appearance, however, cosmetic dentistry is a great alternative to other surgical procedures, and often less invasive. Would you like to straighten your teeth but have gaps or dental implants? Is it time to address those niggles with your teeth you have been putting off dealing with? You may have thought that gaps from missing teeth were too large to be addressed by orthodontic treatment. This is where dental implants can help you achieve the smile you desire. You may also have thought having dental implants means that you can’t have orthodontic treatment. The good news is Invisalign can move the teeth surrounding your implants to improve your smile.

Midlands Smile Centres can help you smile again. Discover how MSC's Invisalign treatments can make problems with your smile a thing of the past.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign braces are an invisible alternative to the traditional braces that you are probably more familiar with. By harnessing innovative forms of technology, MSC's Invisalign invisible braces make use of transparent aligners that are made to specifically fit your teeth. They are comfortable to wear and, most importantly, they are effective: MSC's Invisalign braces will shift your teeth at a gradual pace, manoeuvring them into the desired position.

What's Good About Invisalign?

One huge advantage to opting for MSC Invisalign braces instead of other more traditional types of orthodontic treatment is that they are clear. By being transparent, Invisalign braces are very discreet looking, and a definite improvement in cosmetic terms on the less-than-attractive braces of the past.

Crucially, they are also an effective choice for straightening your teeth and ensuring that teeth are moved into the position that they need to be in.

Another advantage is that Invisalign braces are comfortable to wear, too.

Also, due to these invisible braces being removable, they are relatively easy when it comes to eating, and when it's time to clean them.

How Does It Work?

To begin with, an MSC orthodontist will take a mould of your teeth. Doing this allows us to create the most comfortable fitting for your teeth. From here, the bespoke see-through aligners will be made for you.

As an added part of the process, Midlands Smile Centres can offer you the ClinCheck® 3D treatment plan, which makes it possible for our patients to see beforehand what difference the treatment will make once it is finished.

How Much Will It Cost?

The cost of MSC Invisalign treatment starts from £45.83* per month. To learn more about Invisalign treatment at MSC, why not get in touch with our orthodontic therapist today?

Implants

Something else regarding your teeth that may require your attention is missing teeth. This is where implants come in. We at MSC can provide you with these types of Dental Implants: Single Dental Implants, Implanted Dentures, Gold Implants, and Implanted Bridges.

Single Dental Implants: These are made up of two parts- a real-looking false tooth and a supporting titanium rod. The supporting titanium rod is inserted into the jawbone to replace the root of the missing tooth while the false tooth remains visible on top of the gum.

Natural in their appearance, Single Dental Implants are also comfortable and widely believed to be one of the most versatile forms of treatment out there in response to missing teeth.

Implanted Dentures: An effective alternative to regular dentures, Implanted Dentures are attached to the jawbone. Achieved through the creation of a mould of your mouth, and through the use of titanium screws or cylinders which are inserted into the jawbone, they additionally offer greater stability than regular dentures. Implanted Dentures also feel look and function in a similar manner to that of natural teeth.

Gold Implants: Consisting of an implant and a gold tooth which is made with a gold alloy that blends zinc, platinum, palladium, copper and silver, MSC gold implants are attached to the jawbone. They provide the same level of function as standard implants and are a bold and emphatic stylistic choice for your teeth.

The combination of materials in the alloy give the crown the strength that is needed, and this means they are suitable for use on the back teeth (molars) which is where the majority of food you eat is chewed.

Implanted Bridges: Similar to traditional bridges, Implanted Bridges are false teeth that take the place of missing teeth in the gum of the patient, but in contrast to traditional bridges, the false teeth are supported by implants and not by surrounding healthy teeth.
Due to these implant supported bridges making use of implants, there is no damage caused to the surrounding teeth-unlike ordinary bridges. Also in comparison to ordinary bridges, implant-supported bridges are more durable.
